Former Herman Miller CEO Max De Pree said that the most important job of a leader is to define reality. Defining reality is telling the story of why your company exists, what you try to accomplish, how you go about doing it, and who does the work. Your reality organizes the values and mission of your organization into a coherent story. It is even more important than your business strategy because it shapes every decision you make, including the business strategy itself. This worksheet will help you develop yours.

In this worksheet, I give you a generic template for defining reality. In the second section, I use Planet Subaru as an example of how the worksheet can be used.
